Having once been a rundown racecourse that could have been lost forever, Aintree is now owned by the Jockey Club and has had the investment to bring its facilities up to the level expected of the host venue of the sport’s biggest race.

The racecourse station was last used on Grand National day, 25th March 1961, and closed a year later. Aintree has also been used as a venue for motor racing. Aintree Motor Racing Circuit is a 3-mile (4.83 km) motor racing circuit in the village of Aintree, Merseyside, England.
