There is nothing in the text to support this, but I think that Vincent's a stand up guy who just loves love so I buy it.
It does so much that's terrific: Gene Tierney gives an absolutely titanic performance, the Technicolor is the kind of luminous that makes you want to rub your eyes every time you look away from the screen, and it has what must rank as one of the scariest movie deaths of all time (and it never even comes close to being a horror film). :). I struggle with old movies. Enjoy! On the surface it’s like a simple tale of jealousy and obsession, but with a little reading between the lines it becomes much more than that.

Stahl's direction holding me back, with its weird use of music (strikingly spare, but not in a way that's particularly effective except for one scene).
