Weather the Storm is a solid choice. So, to answer the question this article began with, Ponder appears to be better than Preordain when searching for a specific card, even after a number of turns; also, it’s interesting to notice that Serum Visions is almost as good as Preordain for this purpose, as Preordain is banned in some formats.
You need removal because your opponent is gonna kill you in 2 turns. Maybe he's just preparing for the day they ban Brainstorm TROLOLOLOLOLOL, New comments cannot be posted and votes cannot be cast. Preordain actually feels very good, very smooth and keeps you in rhythm. the power level between the two cards are very close, yet each of them see different amount of plays in its format. Preordain gets you a maximum of three cards deep, and you only get to "choose" between the first two. Plus, it's not like it's going to suddenly destroy my win percentage to move to Preordain even if Preordain is slightly worse. I rather take logical probability over "top decking" from the shuffle any-day of the week. (0 members and 1 guests). Brainstorm, Ponder, Preordain Each card does something very similar, and very very useful.
You just take the island and bottom the stuff that you don't like. For me. Thanks for your input! Shards was the time of Turn-1-tapland. Against combo, you really want to be able to find specific cards that matter, and Ponder lets you get deeper. Preordain only in spellslinger decks. I'm super pleased to see a Turbofog take a 5-0, and it's a neat brew. Ponder let's you dig a card more, but if you want to keep one of them, you commit yourself to keep the other 2. Hi All, Typically, we've seen Preordain only after Ponder takes up 4 slots. I don't play the format often, so I could be wrong.
Against combo, you really want to be able to find specific cards that matter, and Ponder lets you get deeper. Do you shuffle? Ponder digs 3, Preordain digs 2 before you draw.
The trade off is that you avoid the awkward situations where Ponder reveals one card you want and two cards you don’t want which leads to shuffling a lot of the time unless you have an uncracked fetch land at the ready. Limited enthusiast, Legacy miser, and begrudging Commander. Ponder can occasionally be awkward. It seems most blue decks in the format seem to favor preordain. I've heard before that preordain is better for fair decks and ponder is better for when you're looking for a specific card (combo). When it lines up it's very strong but otherwise it's pretty clunky. The only exception I've seen so far is in the occasional Miracles deck. There are 7 shuffles in the deck (4 Ash Barrens and 3 Stream of Thought,) although only the Ash Barrens are consistently available to shuffle the deck (sometimes you can't play Stream just to shuffle). Legacy Tournament Announcements and Results, If this is your first visit, be sure to
For example, suppose you're digging for your second land drop, and you hit something like Island, Gush, Foil. It wasn't until I played 4x Preordain in Lejay's Grixis Pyromancer deck that I felt the advantages of Preordain. With Ponder you get to look at 4 cards (maybe). If you draw a Preordain and think "Ponder would've been better", add 1 Ponder.
True but it won't work if Preordain catches on. As you mentioned, library manipulation has great impact. Unless you have some way of shuffling after the draw and in that case you would be better using Brainstorm, since it let's you draw 3 cards and get hid of 2 cards that you don't want. Are you the type who wants to believe in the “heart of the card” or are you the type that doesn’t want to leave things up to chance?
Siding out all the fogs and most of the Weathers for a bunch of counters makes the Tron Match-up winnable.
I'm a big fan of Scry effects. If you have a Ponder in your hand then you will see that Deluge and know that you can sweep the board and keep the Push for the next threat that comes. Preordain doesn’t suffer from this problem. I was talking about this with some people earlier today and couldn't figure it out. Any help is appreciated. © 2020 MagicFind, Inc. All rights reserved. You might draw the Deluge and use it on a single threat or possibly fetch and shuffle it away. Meanwhile Preordain only looks at a maximum of 3 cards but you are 100% guaranteed to not draw one the two cards you scryed to the bottom. Fetches are stretched by their DRSs enough and there's no WL to help with that. Was looking through the decklists from GP Madrid and something curious caught my eye in Enevoldsen’s take on Pile: he was running 4 copies of Preordain and 0 Ponder. Preordain is just hands down better. I use to see it and Ponder show up together in Delver variants and Izzet Blitz decks a couple of years ago, but my impression is that I don't see Ponder and Brainstorm in deck lists as much these days. That's more than enough, and you should be able to control drawing only a portion of your Pondered cards. But if you have a Preordain you will not know that that card is there.
This struck me as odd, as most players consider Ponder to be “strictly better,” given that you immediately see three cards with an option to see a fourth before you draw, while Preordain immediately shows you two with an option to see a third before you draw.
Wouldn't Preordain be better than Ponder when sifting through two halves? Curious what people consider when deciding which to play, especially when you don't have room in a deck to play both.
