Anyway I like the idea but sadly it is unconvincing, to me it looks like a film made in 2015 trying but failing to look 1984. As I said, I was let down by the un-originality and because I didn’t feel the magic of the homage. It doesn’t hurt that a little tongue in cheek humor is thrown in for good measure (such as several of the victims foreshadowing how they will die). In fact by 1984 the period known as the Golden Age of the slasher boom was pretty much over.

The 80s also saw some classic horror, and it was interesting for 'Lost After Dark' to intend to be a throwback homage to 80s slasher/horror. Now, who’s going to say ‘I think we should get out of here’ first? Despite its slightly off kilter pacing and in my mind lack of true bloodshed, the entertaining group dynamics and the practical effects are reason enough to watch and enjoy this one. Now, in hindsight it’s unnecessary because other than giving the audience a bit of early action and a brief glimpse of the killer, it has no context to the Joad character or anyone else in the film. Lost After Dark made the fatal mistake of trying to allude to an entire subgenre of films that you could be watching instead.
It reminds us of older movies. If it had had something to say about the genre other than simply reminding us that eighties slasher films existed, it might have worked. I do wish Sarah Fisher had a more substantial role though. I don't want to be eaten by a cannonball.... Homage to 80s "slasher" flicks does not work. And that's not to say it's all bad,the over all story is done good enough. Have nothing against slashers, far from it. The idea is to put myriad of old horror antics in attempt to create gore as well as slight comedy. The wardrobe is far too over the top 1980’s, leaving the characters looking more like teenagers on their way to a 1980’s themed party than teens of the 1980’s. You’ve got your usual handful of teenage cut-and-paste horror movie stereotypes who just want to smoke weed and have sex, but they end up stranded in the middle of nowhere when they run out of fuel. Even though I enjoy that 80’s look and feel, whether it be the clothing or the music maybe even just the nostalgic appeal, I still enjoy watching how far the acting and effects have come these days. Awards First of all, there is only barely an attempt to make this feel like an eighties film. Sequel! The audience is given no reason to root for any of the characters because there is virtually nothing to them beyond their stereotype.
