I hear the movie is really excellent too! Interview With The Vampire Book. I will absolutely be continuing with this series, but not right away. I feel like I still don’t know much about Armand.
This novel is DA BOMB and the audiobook is a masterpiece. Robert is a science fiction and fantasy geek. Post was not sent - check your email addresses! I also felt for him, stuck with Lestat of all people as his maker. The force of his emotions (plus his drama – he’s the f**king queen honey!)
All he did was dwell in negatives and pain. Still, though, this first book of the series continues to be surprisingly strong, even if it single-handedly brought about an entire "goth industry" that threatens to turn all of Rice's original material into parodies of itself. I wanted to talk about this though because I’ve seen people talk about romance/love/batting eyes at each other/etc. Vampires are a topic that have been over-played and drawn out (although I do love watching “The Vampire Diaries” on the CW) for a while. I read it after seeing the movie, so I just have Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt stuck in my head as the characters lol. Ahh you make me want to reread them. I guess its one of those books I’m terrified to read because I loved the movie which is crazy because how can the book be worst, great review! Maybe only because I couldn’t wait to read it since the minute we talked about it. – The characterization was fantastic. They do find some vampires but they only turn out to be mindless bodies who are only living on instincts and are searching for blood. My Thoughts on the Relationships (there might be *SPOILERS* in this section): – Louis and Claudia’s was the strangest because he raised her as a father, then he became her lover (minus the sex), but he still kind of thought of her as a child and treated her like a child because she looked like one. But Louis and Claudia find that finding others like themselves provides no easy answers and in fact presents dangers they scarcely imagined. When I tried to read The Vampire Lestat straight after though…let’s just say, there was a bookmark half way through that novel for 10 years before I gave up and got rid of the books I’d bought (I’m an all or nothing kind of girl, I didn’t buy the whole series but it was more than 2 lol). Glad you enjoyed it so much, despite the fact that the same thing that drew you to the book at certain points also did not work at others. I sincerely regret watching the movie because it hindered my enjoyment of the novel. I read it almost 10 years ago maybe and I was sooooo in love with Louie and intrigued by Claudia & Armand and I don’t want it to be ruined if I feel differently. I was totally captivated from start to finish. I bought this because I lent or lost my copy and decided to go digital with my kindle and build my library again in a way that's easily moved. From the events that led him to being turned into a vampire; to his unhappy time in New Orleans with his maker, Lestat; to the vampire child, Claudia, whom they made; to his travels around the globe searching for other vampires; Louis bares all and tells the story of his life to an eager journalist.
This novel has around 350 pages and in those pages, you get to see how The Vampire Chronicles start and what story the plot describes, find out all of that, and more in our book review of Interview With The Vampire. My favorite bits of this book were the bits involving Claudia as she became the one subject Lestat was always reluctant to talk about. This was also my first vampire book, and I didn’t read Dracula until last year either, haha, so we have that in common! Too many reading obligations at the moment. I've read others by Anne Rice and she crafts a great tale. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. But I adore him. But yeah, this was a big influence on the modern portrayal of vampires! And Anne Rice's writing is officially the sh**! Louis recounts how he became a vampire at the hands of the radiant and sinister Lestat and how he became indoctrinated, unwillingly, into the vampire way of life. I wasn't familiar with Anne Rice works since 2010 May.
I can’t promise it won’t give you nightmares (I mean, I’ve had random nightmares from non-horror books lol), but I can promise it’s not at all a scary or creepy book. I was used to reading SciFi and High Fantasy, so reading this book was very different for me and I loved it. And Louis, well, he was clearly just enamored by the way someone was finally willing to give him answers and talk with him and listen while he brooded aloud. Obviously I jumped on that shit. I’m really curious to see if my opinion will change as I read more. I really enjoyed it, to the point that I actually want to continue rereading the series—I hadn’t been expecting that. But I’m going to talk about it anyway because it’s special to me. Events lead to Louis setting his own plantation on fire and Lestat actually kills many slaves so that they don’t spread the word about what they are as that would definitely attract a lot of unwanted attention to Louis and Lestat. This book was the book—the one that started my love for vampire books. What I loved most about this book is how it started with a slow burn and it felt like my body was slowly being drawn into a dreamlike state. It's hard to admit that a movie with Tom Cruise in it could, Okay, I confess, I've actually read the first three of the novels in this fantastical series; but that they declined in quality so rapidly and profoundly that I just couldn't continue after that.
