It does have its flaws, but for every misstep there's a spark of astounding creativity - for instance, the ending is absolutely unmissable. I daresay this is a bit of a hidden gem! Director: Frederick Koehler, Sennia Nanua, But Finnish director Taneli Mustonen doesn’t use the 1960 true story of four teens murdered in their tent for his tale; he uses the campfire theories the massacre spawned as inspiration. It includes movies released in previous years that earned money during 2017. Better Watch Out is not the movie you think it is: Few films are this able to completely shift course, but the major redirect that occurs a third of the way into the movie is just part of what makes it such a thrillingly subversive take on the Christmas slasher. This is more of a coming of age drama that throws cannibalism into the mix in about as realistic a way as you can probably get.
Secure within a desolate home as an unnatural threat terrorizes the world, a man has established a tenuous domestic order with his wife and son. The monster looks great considering what must have been a relatively small budget - you can tell it's CGI but it's still impressive. Brittany Allen, | The social commentary could have easily been too overbearing or crass if handled poorly, but it's executed brilliantly and there's enough humour and tongue-in-cheek horror tropes interspersed throughout to keep things tense, intriguing and thoroughly entertaining. A couple's relationship is tested when uninvited guests arrive at their home, disrupting their tranquil existence. | When the horror does finally arrive it's well done but slightly understated, some folks may feel underwhelmed by it, but it hit the mark for me.
A really good thriller-horror with some thematic nods to Manhunter / Red Dragon. Daniel Kaluuya, Tianna Nori, This may have bee a Top 3 horror film of 2017 for me if not for that damn ending! Oh, and Thomas Jane, bravo. 411,527 Rabah Nait Oufella, Ethan Embry, who’s been slaying the indie horror realm lately (Cheap Thrills, The Guest) gives the performance of his career as Jesse Hellman (what’s in a name?) Has a Satanic cult undertone, a la Rosemary's Baby.Well made and with a great ending.

| Carla Gugino does a lot of the heavy lifting: As Jessie, she has to play both helpless victim and resourceful survivor — and sometimes both at once, as Jessie hallucinates a more assertive version of herself to help her out of her predicament. Tom Davis. Like that film, It raises the bar for Stephen King movies, and that’s a good thing. Michael O’Shea crafts a tasteful vampire film that joins the ranks of Tomas Alfredson’s Let the Right One In. I'd never heard of it, nor was I expecting such a huge tonal shift during the movie - after a fun but generic first 20 minutes the whole film gets turned completely on its head and it's a real breath of fresh air!Excellent production values, great acting and a bit of dark humour. Carla Gugino, | Michael Fassbender, It's an uneven watch but deserving of a cult audience, which I hope it finds.A cautious recommendation - fans of cult horror will enjoy it, others may not be able to see past its flaws. The first two acts are very slow and contain little in the way of horror, it almost plays out like a straight drama. Want something done right, do it yourself, yeah? The ISS crew in Daniel Espinosa’s sci-fi screamer have retrieved a blobby lifeform, and now it’s eating their organs. Michael Fassbender holds it all together with a strong performance.
